Google Suspended FrostWire For No Reason

Right after FrostWire settled with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the search engine Google took a decision to cut the cord on one of the most popular file-sharing Android clients worldwide. The industry observers are still not sure if this was a coincidence or not.

The developer of FrostWire application, Angel Leon, admitted that the move of the search giant was quite a surprise, because the company hadn’t sent him any prior notice about its intentions to suspend the application. However, FrostWire thinks this turn of events is something connected with the recent settlement between the file-sharing project and Federal Trade Commission over privacy matters.

The Federal Trade Commission accused the application of disregarding the Internet users’ privacy by sharing files. As a result, the changes were made for both versions of the application, desktop and Android ones. Moreover, those updates were applied several months ago. Angel Leon confirmed that the company fixed the application ages ago, which means that the overwhelming majority (around 99.9%, as they have estimated) of the client users are actually running a fresh edition of the program, 0.6.3, which is a whole generation over. So, there shouldn’t be even a hint of worry in regards to the FTC complaints right now.

On the other hand, a number of media reports emphasized that even after the updates the application was still infringing users’ privacy. That’s what may have led to such a drastic measure taken by Google.

The developer of the application claimed that the lack of communication from the search engine wasn’t something that he expected. He complained that it was just wrong to get suspended without even an explanation or any notice, particularly an application for which people have said they purchased an Android for. Angel Leon pointed out that his software has been installed on more than a million of different electronic devices over the last year. In the meantime, his efforts to get some answers from Google brought no results thus far.

Up to date, the FrostWire application can still be downloaded from the company’s official site on the Internet, and the users are expecting future updates of the client in the nearest future – may be in the following weeks or even days.
