McAfee Will Lay off Few Employees

McAfee has announced that it was planning to lay off only a small percentage of its 7,100 personnel. In the meantime, the local media reported that the security arm of Intel refused to disclose when the company is planning to do so and why it made this decision. Some of the news agency expressed the opinion that this decision might result from the current economic crisis, which has seen the computer software industry experience.

Industry experts believe that that McAfee might slump even more because of the upcoming Microsoft’s Windows 8, which will be released with pre-installed antivirus software when the operating system is introduced later in October.

On the other hand, these expectations contradict a recent report published by the industry experts, which revealed that in September the IT security was still recognized as a priority for the businesses within the next 4 years, even despite reduced budgets and the continuing economic crisis.

The analysts also expect the worldwide spending on security to increase to $60 billion this year, which would be more than 8% from $55 billion last year. They believe that this rise will continue over time and exceed $85 billion by 2017.

Intel has acquired McAfee last February for $7.7 billion, when the organization employed 7,072 people. The US security software company was started 25 years ago as McAfee Associates and was named after its founder John McAfee. McAfee’s HQ are based in Santa Clara, California, and the company marketing of software and services to individual users, businesses and the public sector as its main activity.a
