Music Star Violated Children’s Privacy

Justin Bieber was accused of violating the privacy of the girls who visited his official site. Actually, all of his victims wouldn’t mind to hand over their personal data, especially those who believed that Justin might really know who they were. However, the privacy watchdogs were furious.

The local newspapers report that the firm involved into making official fan websites for Justin and his representatives have reached an agreement with the authorities to pay $1,000,000 in order to settle charges that they illegally collected personal details about over 100,000 kids.

The Federal Trade Commission has filed a complaint in a New York district court last week to accuse Artist Arena of violating the rights of the kids. The matter is that the company didn’t get parental consent before gathering personal data like names and email addresses of the kids. As a result, Artist Arena had to agree to settle for $1,000,000, but this settlement still must be approved by a judge. The company admitted that it improperly gathered data from more than 100,000 kids aged under 12. In the meantime, according to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, the online portals are required to give special treatment to the kids aged 12 or younger – at least, they have to get parental permission to collect any personal data about the kids.

The Federal Trade Commission is currently in the process of updating the rules to enforce stricter requirements for the companies and official websites which target kids and youth. In the meanwhile, Artist Arena provided no comments about the deal, and Justin Bieber is saying that he has a relationship with Jesus, and he is talking to him and that’s why he is here. Actually, for most people that’s just another reason to hate the organized religion.
